Submission: Inquiry into aspects of the National Anti-Corruption Commission's (NACC) performance of its functions

Transparency International Australia is pleased to provide the following comments and recommendations to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the National Anti-Corruption Commission's inquiry into aspects of the National Anti-Corruption Commission's (NACC) performance of its functions.

TI Australia played a significant role in advocating for the establishment of the NACC, and we have closely observed its operations since it commenced in July 2023.

We welcome this inquiry as an important opportunity to assess whether the NACC is fulfilling the expectations that accompanied its creation, and to identify practical reforms that would strengthen its effectiveness and public standing.

This submission focuses primarily on terms of reference 4 and 5: the NACC's approach to public reporting and communication, and the effectiveness of its corruption prevention and education activities. We also address terms of reference 1, 2 and 3 in summary, given the importance of those issues to the people who engage with the NACC.
