Premier must call Royal Commission into corruption in Victoria’s construction sector

Transparency International Australia is calling on Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan to commit to Royal Commission into organised crime and criminal activity in Victoria’s construction sector.

Since July 2024, Nine Media has repeatedly exposed allegations of corruption and criminal activity in Victoria’s construction sector including the $100 billion Big Build program. This week’s tabling of the report for the Queensland Commission into trade union corruption detailed further evidence of corruption, inflated contracts, and a lack of Victorian government action in Victoria’s Big Build.

“The evidence is clear, CFMEU corruption, organised crime gangs and dodgy construction companies have plagued Victoria’s $100 billion build since day one,” said Clancy Moore, CEO of Transparency International Australia.

“This had led to violence and billions in taxpayer money being wasted on bloated contracts.

“Only a Royal Commission with strong coercive powers and a broad terms of reference will give Victorians the answers they deserve.”
